In 1957 Ivan Gibbs and Bert Wilson founded at Labrador (now Arundel) on the Gold Coast, what is today Gibbs Truck & Trailer Parts (GTTP). It was primarily a truck and car wrecking yard, but business focus changed to supplying the needs of valued customers in the trucking industry. It later became a Gibbs family business and was taken over in 1980 by the current owners, Chris and Paul Gibbs . They continue to be hands-on operators, fully involved on a daily basis with all aspects of the business.
GTTP closed the truck wrecking operation in 1997 in order to meet the growing needs of customers for “new” parts with full manufacturer’s warranty.
In October 2000 GTTP opened a second Gold Coast outlet at Burleigh Heads, complete with a full drive shaft repair shop. Also during 2000, GTTP’s transmission and differential repair product range was increased to include European vehicles including Mercedes Benz, Volvo, Scania, Renault and ZF. The transmission, differential and drive shaft repair operations, which developed from the very early “truck wrecking” days, continues to grow with the “market demand”.
Then in July 2006 GTTP saw the need for another store halfway between the Gold Coast and Brisbane at Yatala. 2007 saw a change when Progressive Diesel Maintenance came on-board to run the vehicle service workshop in conjunction with GTTP’s existing workshop commitments. PDM continues to provide the high standard of service that GTTP has been known for over the years. In 2014 we transitioned from being the Gold Coast dealer for Daimler Commercial Vehicles to the “parts and service” dealer for Western Star and MAN Trucks. Then in 2018 we were appointed Iveco “parts and service” Dealer for the Gold Coast which allows us a more diverse range of genuine products to offer to our customers.2020 has brought many challenges but despite this we have been able to expand our Gearbox & Diff division and opened a larger more accessible workshop in Larapinta. Also in 2020 with the growth in our business we have now relocated our Rocklea Branch to a much larger site in Oxley. GTTP gives full acknowledgement to the excellent support of first class staff members who over the years have worked to develop GTTP into a successful Australian family company.
